Uday Bhasin

Uday Bhasin specializes in advising corporates and families on strategic matters as well as restructuring and bridging capital flows between Middle East, Asia, Europe and Africa. Uday Bhasin has been privileged to lead a number of landmark transactions across these regions.

Prior to his current role, Uday Bhasin was the Chief Investment and Finance Officer at Sharjah Holding which is a strategic joint venture between The Government of Sharjah and Majid Al Futtaim, one of the most pre-eminent business house in the UAE. As part of the role Uday Bhasin managed real estate investments in excess of AED 1.5bn.

Uday Bhasin joined Sharjah Holding from Dubai Group, the diversified financial services company focused on banking, investments and insurance. Dubai Group is a private investment company with majority and significant minority positions in businesses that operate in both Developed and Emerging Markets. The multibillion-dollar portfolio consisted of over 100 listed and unlisted assets.

During his career with Dubai Group he was responsible for the management of a billion dollar portfolio of subsidiary banking assets, the restructuring and the formulation of a strategic response to the financial crisis. Uday Bhasin was instrumental in the restructuring of the proposal to the creditor banks of Dubai Group which consisted over 20 banks and was a total debt value of US$ 10bn.

Before joining Dubai Group, Uday Bhasin spent ten years working in the UK, Africa, India and UAE for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), one of the world’s largest providers of assurance, tax and business consulting services. Uday Bhasin advised on several landmark transactions including the GBP5bn acquisition of ABSA by Barclays Bank.

John Kuria

John is a seasoned tax and accounting professional who specialises in corporate taxes, international and employment taxes and Finance. He is involved in handling a variety of complex Finance and direct tax matters. He has been instrumental in handling Trainings in both Tax and Finance fields. Over the years, John has gained solid and extensive experience in general corporate tax matters, withholding taxes, international tax planning, transfer pricing, group re-structuring, tax optimization advisory, VAT reviews, liaising with Senior Revenue Authority officials and advising clients on the range of tax planning opportunities available within the legislation. John headed the expatriate and personal taxes service line in Deloitte East Africa and had regional oversite for Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia and had experience in advising clients on international and domestic taxes including handling tax compliance and regulatory matters for expatriates. In addition, John has extensive experience in payroll taxes including carrying out payroll reviews for Multinational companies. John has also handled relocation services. John has also led several audits for private and donor funded projects. In addition John has extensive experience providing accounting and financial management services, audit and assurance services, reviews of controls effectiveness and corporate governance services to clients in the various sectors. He has worked with Management and Boards in both private and public sectors and has served clients in Kenya and the East Africa Region. He has been involved in all aspects of client service delivery for clients that includes Information Communication and Technology (ICT), infrastructure, manufacturing, hospitality, banking and insurance, NGOs, agricultural among other clients. John was formerly an Associate Director at Deloitte Limited. John is the holder of a Doctorate (PHD) in Finance from USIU, MBA from the University of Nairobi, Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University, is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya and holds a certificate from the Association of Tax Technicians (ATT), UK

Nikhil Hira

Nikhil is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. He was a partner in Deloitte East Africa and headed the tax practice in the region. He was the Technology, Media and Telecom industry leader. He is currently the Regional Representative of the Eastern Africa Association, a consultant with a law firm on tax matters and an independent director on the boards of I&M Bank Limited, I&M Rwanda Plc and GA Insurance Limited. Nikhil has specialised in taxation since 1987 in various jurisdictions around the world including the UK and East Africa. He has acted for and advised a wide range of clients from family businesses to multinationals on all aspects of taxation. In the nineties he was responsible for establishing the first practice in the region that focused only on indirect tax. He has over 35 years experience in local and international taxation matters and has had experience in a family business. He is a regular commentator on matters tax in the East African region and has over the years been involved in many successful lobbying campaigns to change or introduce new tax laws. He is a past council member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Kenya and during this period also served on the Tax & Public Finance and Professional Standards committees. He sits on the Advisory Committee of the Eastern African Association. Nikhil is a holder of Bachelor of Science Joint Honours, University of Salford, Manchester, UK.

Nancy Mathenge

Nancy is a seasoned tax and immigration services professional with 10 years of experience in the field of taxation and immigration. She has experience in advising clients on international and domestic taxes including handling tax compliance and regulatory matters for corporate clients and expatriates. She has a high level of specialization in anchoring corporate and expatriate tax assignments, immigration assignments including advisory and processing of requisite permits for various expatriates in Multinationals and Kenyan Corporates across grades/levels. Nancy has also handled indirect tax assignments (VAT), KRA audits and was involved in liaising with KRA officials on day to day client matters as well as complex matters on KRA assessments. She has also assisted numerous multinationals relocate their expatriate staff and obtain their immigration status in Kenya. She has been involved in numerous projects for local and multinational companies covering issues relating to corporate tax compliance, International tax advisory, contract structuring and planning, tax due diligence assignments, payroll and accounting administration and delivery. Nancy was formerly a Senior Manager at Deloitte Limited She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Law degrees from Daystar and Mount Kenya University respectively and a Masters In International Commercial Law (LLM- ICL) from the University of Salford, UK.
